The eyes are a prominent feature, playing a significant role as elements in the face and conveying vital expressions that communicate how we feel.

"The eyes are often considered to be the windows to the soul, as they are the first conduits for sight. Expressive changes around the eyes can influence how we see, and in turn, communicate to others how we think and feel."

In this workshop, Joël A. Prévost, a professional artist, will begin by demonstrating various techniques and sharing tricks of the trade for sculpting the elements of the eyes. He'll also provide tips on choosing the appropriate tools for the job. Participants will then have the opportunity to practice sculpting these elements repeatedly on a clay tablet.

The workshop will include an in-depth study of the morphology of the eyes to establish the important points for proper performance. We'll also have a discussion about the language of the eyes and symmetry.

This workshop is designed for beginners to professionals, offering a useful approach to sculpting for every skill level. Don't miss this incredible opportunity to learn from a seasoned artist and refine your sculpting skills!

Bas-relief is an ancient technique. Its earliest use is found in the written clay tablets of the Sumerian civilization from around 2100 BC. Bas-relief sculpture has beautified the historic monuments and temples of the ancient Egyptians and Assyrians, the 8th century Kailasa Hindu temple in India carved out of a single rock,  and the Art Deco architecture of the 20th century.

In this workshop participants will be introduced to basic techniques on how to sculpt a Bas-relief to create an optical illusion. The advantage of working with clay to learn to sculpt a Bas-relief is that the clay allows the participant to not just carve into the clay to create the relief, but also to be able to add material as needed. The participant will sculpt from a slab of clay 20 x 30 cm and 3 cm thick.

This is an opportunity to create your own miniature mural. Some drawing skill is helpful, but not necessary. This workshop is ideal for painter who wants to increase their understanding of depth and optical illusion and to create their own relief clay canvas. We will set up a surprise still life for the students to work from.

This is a 12-hour weekend workshop, please bring your lunch.

Cost: Registration fee $290. + Materials $45. + GST ( includes kiln firing)

 total: $375.2 tax included
