Private Group clay workshops

Our workshop series offers private groups a hands-on introduction to hand-building with clay, creating a fun and memorable creative experience.

These workshops are great for team-building, stagettes, company events, or any creative celebration. Everyone is welcome, no matter their skill level. We can adjust or extend the program to fit your group’s needs and size.

Each session accommodates six to twelve participants and is tailored to your group. No prior clay experience is required. Professional sculptor Joël A. Prévost will demonstrate techniques, guide tool use, and adapt projects to your group’s interests.

Each three-hour session builds practical hand-building and sculpting skills. All materials, including kiln firing, are provided. Workshops are held at The Vancouver Island Sculpting Studio, 294 Harewood Road, Nanaimo. Hand-building involves shaping clay by hand with slabs, coils, and simple tools rather than using a wheel.

Workshop Options:

Wonderland Clay Mushroom

In this creative workshop, each participant will hand-build two or three decorative mushrooms, approximately 4 to 6 inches tall. You will add textured details and finish your pieces with underglaze painting for a colourful, matte appearance.

Fantasy Porcelain Corals

In this immersive workshop, you will create delicate porcelain sea forms, such as corals and other underwater shapes, using slab-building techniques.

After rolling and cutting thin slabs, you will layer, pinch, and shape them into organic forms. Porcelain’s smooth texture allows for fine details and subtle textures, making it ideal for sculptural work.

You will also learn techniques to add texture and contrast, giving your pieces the look of satin undersea sculptures.
