The objective of an artist-in-residence program is to support those who wish to work on a personal clay sculpting project to awaken their individual sense of creativity.

The participant is provided with a solid hands-on experience in a professionally equipped sculpting studio, where they will have access to a work area, sculpting tools, and technical support. You will learn from a professional sculptor Joel A Prevost, in a friendly atmosphere conducive to learning.

The artist is invited to submit the project idea by email.


Artist in Residence / AIR Program

The residency program is tailored for professional and non-career artists seeking to enrich their sculpting style. Sculpting as a Lifestyle caters to individuals looking to disconnect from the digital realm. Enter the studio as a sanctuary for rejuvenating your creative spirit.

Cost:

- **Half-Day Session (3-3.5 hours):** Studio space $105.00 + 1/2 hour private instruction $45.00 + GST. Total: $157.50 per session.

- **Full-Day Session (6 hours):** Studio space $135.00 + 1-hour private instruction $90.00 + GST. Total: $236.25 per session.

- **Consultation or Studio Session:** A 1-hour session with instruction: $90.00 + GST. Total: $94.50 per hour.

Please note that sessions cannot be divided.

The fee excludes materials, which will be calculated based on each project.

Artists are encouraged to present their project idea, including:

- Inspirational drawings or photographs

- Work dimensions

- Personal goals

- Sample photographs of past work

Sessions are scheduled monthly in advance. Participants receive monthly invoices for pre-payment.

Additional private instruction is available to deepen technical expertise at $90.00 per hour."

The Artist in Residence program is aimed at artists to enhance their skill and their creativity.


1 week or 2 weekends residency

This program is ideal for people wishing to work on an individual project in a relaxed environment, while still receiving hands-on instruction as necessary, to succeed with your project.

The VIS studio, with the participant, will design a plan for the residency.  A letter of agreement that includes the project is to be signed by the participant.   

Professional sculptor Joël A. Prévost teaches the techniques and use of tools necessary to sculpt a free-standing sculpture of a life model, taking you step by step by adding, subtracting coring, and burnishing.

This is a 30-33 hour training that can be realized as a one-week or a 2-weekend residency. A 33-hour residency is $1,280. + GST.  ($1,344.00)

The fee does not include materials, and kiln firing, which will be estimated for each project.

You have access to accommodation, you could have the opportunity to stay on-site for $350. with Joel at The Nanaimo Artist's home.

Please note a 20% non-refundable deposit will be required.

For your residency

The Artist’s Residence is a comfortable, eclectic home decorated throughout with a wide variety of artwork. The original structure was a general store built in 1901 to supply workers at the Harewood Mine. 

Beautifully restored, the Artist's Residence is a house with 2 bedrooms, one and a half bathrooms, office space, and a fully equipped kitchen and laundry facilities (washer and dryer).  The house is attached to a professional art studio which is completely private from the residence.

The environment is peaceful and quiet.  There are a variety of outdoor seating areas, including a covered patio, located within lush gardens.  Outdoor sculptures are dispersed throughout the gardens.

The Artist’s Residence is conveniently located, close to the downtown area.  The Artist’s Residence offers free parking and access to an electric vehicle.

For an artist which comes for a residency sculpting with me in Nanaimo, BC. Canada will get an opportunity to live with me in my home.


 AIR Program Cancellation Policy:

- Once an appointment is scheduled with the VIS Studio instructor, dedicated time is set aside exclusively for you.

- If you cancel your appointment with less than 24 hours notice before the scheduled time, a penalty fee of $50.00 will be applied.

- To avoid the cancellation fee, please provide a cancellation notice at least 2 days prior to your appointment.
