Garden Splash
Vivid ceramic explorations of blurred light and floral colour
In the summer of 2025, a quiet afternoon at the Montreal Botanical Garden dramatically shifted my perception of the landscape. While in conversation with a friend about my interest in creating a new floral series, I removed my glasses. The garden's colours softened into a blur, then snapped into bright, gestural tones.
Garden Splash was born from that instant of clarity, featuring layered glazes and sculpted forms that command attention and capture the essence of colours breaking and recomposing—an evocative representation of light, movement, and memory rendered in ceramic.
Each piece translates that instant of altered vision into glaze: layered surfaces; each piece must be handled 18 to 21 times; each colour request requires 2 to 3 coats; gestural forms and saturated pools of colour that read like frozen splashes from the garden.
