Grant Leier
Born in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, in 1956, Grant Leier studied at the Alberta College of Art in Calgary before further refining his skills at the Illustrator’s Workshop in New York. In addition to his training in illustration, Leier is an accomplished painter and is also known for his work with textiles.
Leier has presented numerous solo exhibitions across Canada and California. His paintings, textiles, and assemblages have also been featured in significant group exhibitions in both public and private galleries. His work can be found in many corporate and private collections, including the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, Public Archives Canada, and Chevron Canada. Leier currently lives and paints in Nanaimo, British Columbia.
Grant Leier once compared himself to a crow, gathering the most beautiful and colourful objects it could find. That sense of curiosity and delight runs throughout his whimsical, technically masterful work. Jacques Clement
Jacques Clément is a Quebec-based visual artist whose career spans more than four decades. Trained at UQAM, the Université de Montréal, and Concordia University, he works in soft pastel, painting, and mixed media. His work has been featured in more than 50 solo exhibitions and 80 group exhibitions across Canada, France, and the United States. A recipient of numerous awards and grants from the CALQ and the Canada Council for the Arts, he has also shared his expertise as an educator for more than twenty years.
Clément’s practice explores human presence through gesture, medium, and light. Moving between precision and instinct, figure and erasure, he creates work that captures the energy of the moment, the vibration of the line, and the density of silence. Soft pastel, painting, and mixed media allow him to navigate a space where the figure is both constructed and deconstructed in a single movement.
He is deeply interested in the tension between the visible and the invisible: what emerges, what fades, and what endures. The body, the landscape, and interior space become creative terrain, offering a way to make the intangible felt.
His approach blends technical experimentation with profound emotion, making the two inseparable. Each work is an attempt to capture the ephemeral and inhabit time through colour and matter.
