Grant Leier
Born in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, in 1956, Grant Leier studied at the Alberta College of Art in Calgary before further refining his skills at the Illustrator’s Workshop in New York. In addition to his training in illustration, Leier is an accomplished painter and is also known for his work with textiles.
Leier has presented numerous solo exhibitions across Canada and California. His paintings, textiles, and assemblages have also been featured in significant group exhibitions in both public and private galleries. His work can be found in many corporate and private collections, including the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, Public Archives Canada, and Chevron Canada. Leier currently lives and paints in Nanaimo, British Columbia.
Grant Leier once compared himself to a crow, gathering the most beautiful and colourful objects it could find. That sense of curiosity and delight runs throughout his whimsical, technically masterful work. With full command of design, a love of pattern, and exceptional hand skill, Leier combines illustration, wit, humour, and imagination to create works that both engage and enchant the viewer.
